The Mathematics of Safety
Password strength is all about "Entropy" (measured in bits)—essentially, how many guesses it would take a computer to crack your password.
Why Length Matters Most
Adding length is exponentially better than adding complex characters.
Example: A password like "Tr0ub4dor&3" (which looks complex but is short/predictable) might take 3 days to crack. A password like "correct horse battery staple" (4 random common words) might take 550 years to crack, despite having no special symbols.
Security Best Practices
- Uniqueness: Never reuse passwords. If one site has a data breach, hackers will try that email/password combo on every other major site (Netflix, Amazon, Banking).
- Password Managers: Humans are bad at remembering random strings. Use a tool like Bitwarden, 1Password, or Apple Keychain to generate and store 20+ character passwords for every site. You only need to remember one "Master Password".
